School Year Opportunities

Classroom Assistant: We have four levels of ELL students. Our classes run mornings, afternoons, and

evenings. The classroom assistant helps the teacher make sure every student is keeping caught up and supported.

Tutor: Help a student one-on-one with either English Language skills or academic help (Language Arts or Math for students studying for their GED or ACCUPLACER tests).

Conversation Club Leader: Lead a small group of students in conversation activities. These may be during class or outside of class.

Who Makes A Good Volunteer? Our English Language volunteers just need to be fluent in English and have a heart to help others.  Our students are friendly and hardworking.  Learning a new language is a hard skill, so patience with our students will be expected (along with celebrating with them as they reach new goals!) Math tutors should be able to explain basic math, long division, fractions and algebra. Language Arts tutors should be able to help with grammar and writing skills.

The Application Process:  Volunteers play an important role in our program. We want to make sure that we are a good fit for you and you for us. Fill out the quick application below or call Jen at 507-460-1700 to get started. If we have an open spot for you we will have you come in for an interview and have you go through a background check.  If we are able to offer you a position, you will have a training time with the teacher you will be working with to learn what you will be doing and to ask questions.
